Life-Changing: For me, meditation has changed my life. I was fortunate enough to participate in a 10-day Vipassana retreat several years ago. For 10 days, we meditated in 60-90 minutes sessions from 4:30 in the morning to 10:00 at night. During the retreat, you could not read, exercise, talk to each other, or make eye contact. It was an intensely introspective experience and led to me making a dramatic change in careers and getting my life on a completely different trajectory.
Small Commitments Count: I’m not saying that you have to make a 10 day commitment to receive the benefits of meditation. Even 10 minutes set aside per day can make a huge impact. The point is to make time in your day to clear your mind and reflect. This can look a lot of different ways. Some people exercise to meditate. Some people take time to have a cup of tea. Some people sit on a zafu in a quiet place. Whatever you choose to do, carving out meditation time can help you find balance and clarity even in the most trying times.
The Benefits: In the end, if you carve out personal time to reflect, your overall focus improves and you can draw on that focus and clarity when you are addressing challenging times.
